The Wedding Ring

She had not eaten in days, Not a crumb for her belly. She had not seen anyone in weeks, Not a morsel for her soul. She had not feasted in months,  Because there were mouths that knew no food.  The sounds of towering blocks of bricks breaking apart and crumbling to the ground Echoed through her vicinity and shuddered her very home.  The cries of the children running about the streets searching for their Mama and Papa, Rummaging through the disintegrated, disfigured iron bars and rubble strewn across.  She had not shut her eyes to rest her mind for the longest time, For the pandemonium kept her awake.  Diligent enough to tend to her needs, courageous enough to fend for herself Remembering the words that he had uttered.  “I’d come for you”. She used to walk around the neighbourhood, Polka dotted dresses in red. Her lips matched the reddish hue of the scarf around her neck. Her earrings were rare rubies that refracted in the day and reflected in the night. Her ...

99 songs

#99 The highest of the double digits. The penultimate to that particular series. 99. A number that falls one short of a miracle. Google number 99 and you will find that it denotes spirituality and leadership. Let’s say spiritual leadership. Ring a bell?   We’ve all been there. You score 99 and you wonder where that one number went. ARR’s 99 songs is nothing short of magic for those who go in search of it. Remember, SEEK AND YOU SHALL FIND. 99 songs is a movie not for the faint hearted. It isn’t from the horror genre but it grabs your heart by the fist and squeezes every ounce of blood from the inside. The muscles of the heart tear apart with a sound louder than that of a MACH and yet managed to beat for you. The movie revolves around the premise of ONE SONG. It was very evident from the Movie’s trailer that there was a search for a particular song that had the energy and power to change the world. Change the world it does by the end of the movie. Something one cannot fathom, ...

What is your deepest fear ??

Image
If you can, put on a pair of headphones and listen to FAREWELL LIFE - Arn Anderson on loop while reading this.  Fear, one of the most heightened emotions that the human mind can exhibit. It brings to the forefront a sense of anxiety and nervousness at times when we least expect it to exist. Fear of the darkness gave us Fire; Fear of the sun and the rains gave us shelter and Fear of being alone gave us companionship. Have we ever stopped to wonder what our world would look like if only one person roamed the plains and the deserts, the mountains and the valleys, the prairies and the tundra?  For all our lives thus far, we have made sure that someone stayed on with us or beside us, through our journeys and our strife. We were born looking into the eyes of our mothers and wailing at the top of our voices. We cried so our mothers would take note of our loneliness and pick us up in her arms. We looked at peoples faces and smiled, wondering if they would smile back at us. The moment ...

Did ARR walk out of a New York jazz bar?

Image
This particular album came out in the year 2002; I was probably about thirteen years old and in class 8. I wasn’t very well versed with ARR’s pieces back in the day just because there were loads of western influences when I began to learn about music. I was introduced to the wizardry that was tamil music only during my under-graduation period and I quickly caught up with what had happened over the many years I had gone without enjoying all of the new nuances that were introduced. I heard this song and was flabbergasted by the sheer brilliance of the programming that went into the song. “Vaan Nila” from Kaadhal virus: Karthik’s ode to ARR. Today is the 3 rd of January 2021, the song still amazes me no matter the years that have gone by. New York has forever been a city where artists roam around freely, jamming about at jazz bars. I have never been to the Big Apple but from what I reckon, it has been this extremely flamboyant city that never ceases to amaze or amuse travellers. ...

THE DISGRUNTLED PATIENT

Image
Every story usually begins with “A long time ago” and ends with “Lived happily ever after”. Well, that’s not the case with our profession. Careers rise and fall, not because of who you are but who you are portrayed to be. Long gone are those times when a patient came to you, seeking help to get rid of their pain, whether physical or emotional but since the social media became a source of spreading hatred and false news, things have not been the same.  I wanted to be Doctor who was respected for the work that was done, to feel a sense of satisfaction when a patient smiles after a phase of pain, to make sure every life that could be retrieved from the hands of the grim reaper was saved. I realize that I have become a doctor who is like a guy at a bunk shop who gives what one asks for. The guy at the grocery store you are familiar with, who just seems to give you the best of his stock so that you can come back to him every single time. Every medico (Atleast the Lot of us) studies medi...

Yes, I'm 31

Image
Watching famous SITCOMS online has always been a method of putting my mind to rest when I get all worked up. It was going fine, laughing at the jokes each of those characters cracked or the way they spoke about topics we consider taboo in our society, until every character in the show turned 30. Yes, that magical number 30. One more than 29 and one less than 31. I was born in the year 1989 and I trust you would be able to count out how many years I’ve lived on this planet but hey, the best part of turning 30 is rather its worst.  I refer to Theodore Evelyn Mosby a.k.a Ted Mosby, the lonely young man who sits and rambles stories to his children about HOW HE MET THEIR MOTHER (When I have kids, I’m definitely doing that). The show started with Ted living in New York during his late 20’s and searching for the ONE. It wasn’t until much later in the show that he was finally able to meet the woman, get married and have children with her. There, I built an association with that character w...

She cried out ALOUD

She cried aloud with closed eyes Surrounded by four who know not who she was They wore white clothes and had hidden faces No one to scream out to and no one to hold The sound of the wind gushing outside the window Clickity clack went the wheels over the tracks on the meadow They pushed her into a secluded room Where black was white and white was black They took off her clothes and lay her down Her eyes welled up and tears rolled on They tore away the binds Went on ahead and closed the blinds One grabbed on to her hand, looked into her eyes The wet and wailing eyes, saw nothing but a smile Holding her hand was but another As tight as a vice grabbing an udder She tried to pull away and bring her palms together To beg and plead mercy, mercy from the maker The next, held her legs and spread them apart Kept them wide open, farther than the start She writhed in fear like a cornered tot Her head swung side to side and they bother not The next ...
